Match Report: Carrick vs Wigtownshire

Wigtownshire started the match with real intent, with a particularly strong team. All the same we went down 7–0 to Carrick early on. Shire quickly responded through Smithy narrowing the gap to 7–5, before Mason added another for Wigtownshire to make it 10–10 — setting the tone for a grinding contest mainly in the centre of the pitch

In the second half, Wigtownshire kept up the tempo and showed great attacking shape. Sammy, Malcolm, and Douglas all crossed the line following strong forward play and some slick handling in the backs. Each score reflected the team’s determination and teamwork.

Carrick, to their credit, refused to go away. Every time Wigtownshire got in front, the home side found a way to respond, keeping the pressure on and the scoreboard ticking over. With both teams giving everything, the physicality and intensity never dropped.

Shires physicality in the loose was evident throughout the game with each carry breaking multiple tackles but at times the ball was not released quickly enough to release the backs and the attacks would be repelled by Carrick

Nevertheless it was an excellent game of rugby — competitive, physical, and played in grood spirit. Both sides can be proud of their performances

Man of the match was a difficult call between some big carrying hard working forwards and our dangerous breaking half backs. Mason McDowall maybe edged it at ten, when given quick ball was very effective scoring a try and always attacked with invention
